BRAIN INJURY Nurses OF ACADIANA'S FINGERPRINT

Brief insight from our founder:

When I started working in brain injury, it became apparent that each survivor now experiences life, the world within and around them, post injury as unique as a fingerprint.  Therefore, the standard of care that sews our labor of love together is just as unique and individualized as the community we serve.

What makes us unique?  Our foundation is not only specialized in brain injury care, but also in client centered care. For us, an aspect of client centered care includes continuous care plan evaluation, observing the need for therapeutic adjustments because post injury, the functional presentation of the brain and body are constantly changing.  Another distinctive quality of our care plans are the BINA 9 essential brain principles. The 9 essential brain principles is a concept original to BINA and is imperative to our exclusive nursing care.  We incorporate educational support and therapeutic tools pertaining to our fundamental human needs to maximize the reparative benefits of our nursing services.  BINA's 9 essential brain principles include self-care, rejuvenating rest and sleep, nourishing food & fluids, stress management and therapeutic coping, faith-based connection (per client's desire), nourishing mental engagement, enriching hobbies, purposeful movement, and healthy social relationships.

A significant detail of BINA’s unique fingerprint of care, is we include the family/loved ones of the brain injury survivor into their care plan.  Family relations play a major role in the healing potential post brain injury. The injury impact not only affects the survivor but extends through the entire family unit. I have witnessed the patient being the only focus of care throughout my time serving as a nurse. While the patient is the immediate focus, as healthcare providers, we must remember, to reach the maximal amount of holistic repair, we must also expand care to the caregivers. Post brain injury, families and loved ones must get acquainted with their new role as a caregiver, as well as familiarize themselves with the changed characteristics and behaviors of their loved one.

Brain injury impacts the survivor, and everyone around them as well.  At BINA, we are here to facilitate healing at each layer of the survivor’s world that has been affected by experiencing a brain injury.  Due to the chronic nature of brain injury, I will conclude with this. Healing is not equivalent to cure, curing is diagnosis focused, and healing is person centered. In healthcare, we need both. At Brain Injury Nurses of Acadiana our art is in healing, and we complement the diagnostic focus regimens of our healthcare partners.

My hope, as you read through, you felt the heart & values that are sewn into the practice standards of Brain Injury Nurses of Acadiana. We look forward to meeting you!
